Essential Job Functions
- Acts as an inspector on construction projects.
- Makes daily records of contractor operations to ensure project adherence to plans and specifications.
- Measures, computes, and documents pay items to ensure proper payment for work done under the contract.
- Accepts applications and issues permits for the Engineering Department, including approach, utility, and overweight/oversize truck permits.
- Reviews applications and forms for accuracy, explains permit procedures, fees, and determines missing documents before accepting applications.
- Answers questions for developers, contractors, and residents regarding the application process for obtaining permits, inspection process, and other procedures.
- Verifies and records fees for permits and/or applications.
- Maintains accurate files, records, and enters information into permitting system.
- Aids with permit inspections to ensure compliance with approved permits and relevant standards, as assigned.
- Collaborates with other internal and external government entities regarding permits.
- Assists with ensuring proposed work in the right of way meets County policies, procedures, and standards.
- Reviews preliminary permit plans to ensure required information has been received and delegates plan reviews to Engineers, as needed.
- Works with permit applicants to resolve submitted items that do not meet County standards, policies, and/or procedures.
- Aids in coordinating and processing large section line and/or road improvements by private entities.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Associate in Applied Science in the field of Engineering Technology or related field
- 2 years’ experience in Engineering, Design, Surveying, or related field
- Valid Driver’s License
- Extensive knowledge of computers, computer programs, scanning equipment, and various other office machines
- Knowledge of construction management
- Extensive organizational skills and communication skills
- Ability to use CAD systems
- Must be able to report to Watford City, ND daily at required schedule time
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Able to handle exposure to noise and extreme weather conditions
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds, kneel, stoop, sit, walk extensively
Pay, Benefits, and Schedule
Level and salary are commensurate with experience. Benefits include:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield Medical Single: 100% paid for employees
- Single+Child(ren): $269.28 monthly
- Family: $397.80 monthly
- Dental Single: 100% paid for employees
- Dental Family: $16.98 monthly
- Vision Single: 100% paid for employees
- Vision Family: $4.32 monthly
- Vacation Time: 0-2 full years earn 4 hours per pay period = 96 hours per year
- 3-5 full years earn 5 hours per pay period = 120 hours per year
- 6-9 full years earn 6 hours per pay period = 144 hours per year
- Over 10 full years earn 7 hours per pay period = 168 hours per year
- Sick Time: 4 hours earned per pay period = 96 hours per year
- Retirement Main Plan: County contributes 9.26%, Employee contribute 1%-3%
- Public Safety Plan: Employee contributes 1.5%, County matches 16.54%
- Certified Law Enforcement Officers (Deputies/Corrections): Flex Accounts Tax-free dollars set aside each month, up to $3,200.00 annually for medical expenses $5,000.00 annually may be set aside for day care expenses
- Life Insurance: McKenzie County provides $12,000.00 life insurance. Additional coverage available at a discounted rate.
- Deferred Income – 457B: Similar to a 401k plan; minimum contribution amount is $25.00, max of $22,500.00 per year. Funds cannot be withdrawn until retirement, termination, or an unforeseeable emergency.
- Supplemental Insurance: MetLife plans may be purchased for an additional charge.
