About the Role

This position is within the Propulsion and Reactor Engineering Planning Yard’s (PREPY) structural engineering groups, supporting the development of new aircraft carriers, modernization of the existing aircraft carrier fleet, design of a new battleship class, and standard valve designs used throughout the Navy. PREPY is a multidisciplinary, cross-platform design agency responsible for the design, development, and lifetime support of propulsion plants (including reactor plants) for all Navy aircraft carriers (NIMITZ and FORD Class) and nuclear battleships (BBGN Class), as well as standard valves used across all Navy ships.

Responsibilities include analyzing, researching, and developing structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic, or composite structural materials for product design or operation. This encompasses structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronics, power plant, armament, heating, ventilating, equipment, and maintenance designs. Key focus areas include damage tolerance, durability, design allowables, structural modeling, dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue, and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer, and various software applications.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program (required).
• Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience, or
  • Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience, or
  • Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in finite element analysis (FEA) methods with pre-/post-processor FEMAP and ABAQUS.
• Proficiency in performing hand calculations using textbook methods, developing engineering calculation reports, and checking structural analyses reports.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong collaboration skills to interface with construction, other engineering disciplines, value stream customers, and designers to communicate engineering resolutions and approve changes to CAD models.
• Experience with tools such as Siemen's TEAMCENTER, FEAMAP, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, MATHCAD, and other engineering and design software applications.

Pay

The anticipated salary range for this role is $99,000.00 to $122,000.00. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
