Engineer Sr - Systems
About the role
Support the design, test, and system integration of the COLUMBIA Class Main Propulsion Motor Drives (MPDs). Oversee development and integration of critical components into the revolutionary electric propulsion system for the COLUMBIA Class. Responsibilities include MPD design efforts, qualification testing, and analysis of complex systems within the component, including control systems, fluids systems, structural, and materials. Drive supplier deliverables, test procedures, test reports, and design to meet all applicable requirements while identifying deficiencies in the specification to apply lessons learned to future electric propulsion plant submarine topologies. Assist in MPD construction support and shipboard integration at Electric Boat manufacturing facilities and test support at the Electric Boat Shipyard in Groton, CT, and the IPS Compatibility Test Facility (CTF) in Philadelphia, PA.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate supplier MPD design and redesign efforts (Hardware and Software)
- Verify control system design compliance with specifications and system requirements
- Support testing and troubleshooting for MPDs at the Electric Boat shipyard in Groton, CT, the IPS CTF, and supplier facility
- Support lifecycle management activities including maintenance oversight
- Interface with technical and management personnel at NAVSEA, NNL, NSWC, and vendors
- Interface with Operations and Trades at Electric Boat manufacturing facilities
- Enforce technical requirements on vendors
Requirements
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field (Systems, Marine Mechatronics, etc.)
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Experience using Microsoft products
- Ability to occasionally travel to remote facilities within the United States (Philadelphia, PA; Milwaukee, WI; Washington, D.C., etc.)
Qualifications
- Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience working with government customers
- Ability to understand macro level objectives and priorities while driving detailed level actions
- Multi-disciplinary systems engineering experience in complex systems based products
- Experience with Military Standards
- Experience in control systems, variable speed motor drives, fluid systems engineering, or thermal analysis
- Experience using MATLAB and/or Simulink
- Experience with model based systems engineering
