Engineer (Radiological Work)
About the Role
Engineers (ERWs) at BWSR—a joint venture with BWXT—report to the Engineering Manager in support of Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) efforts at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory Kesselring Site in West Milton, New York. ERWs collaborate closely with Operations, Radiological Controls, and EH&S personnel to develop detailed work procedures and lift plans for radiological D&D work. Training and qualifications are provided and must be maintained to strict Program standards. ERWs assess work conditions and determine efficient methods that comply with all Program and local requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop and author technical work documents and lift plans to enable the specialized workforce to safely and efficiently perform radiological and hazardous remediation.
- Participate in work scoping to understand site conditions, work scope, and end-state objectives.
- Contribute to project scheduling.
- Develop technical specifications for subcontracted work.
- Create facility characterization plans.
- Oversee and examine production and subcontractor work.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws.
- Develop Project Closeout and Release Reports.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in Engineering or Science.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Nuclear, Construction, Demolition, or Remediation fields.
- U.S. Citizenship (no dual citizenship).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to a culture focusing on Safety and Health.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Level L Security Clearance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain radiological qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience.
- Radiological, environmental, and lifting/handling experience.
- AutoCAD Inventor experience.

Pay
As of the date of this posting, the pay range for this position is $87,000 – $125,000 per year. Compensation depends on experience, education, key skills, geographic location, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity.
