This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which includes Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This team drives quality products throughout the organization by maintaining a corporate culture that emphasizes accountability, drive, and attention to detail at all levels.

About the role

In this role, you will apply standard engineering techniques to evaluate product conformance through the execution, optimization, and validation of quality processes. Responsibilities include verifying product and process conformance, root cause and corrective action analysis, nonconformance disposition, hardware acceptance planning, and design verification. You will establish quality standards for products and processes, suggest modifications to prevent defects, and work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate quality risks.

  • Establish, implement, maintain, and enforce quality system processes that support products in development and production environments
  • Measure, analyze, and improve quality system performance consistent with organization quality goals
  • Review and approve manufacturing build documents including work orders and nonconformance records
  • Perform periodic audits of the application of our quality system in accordance with AS9100
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and make recommendations to improve the quality and manufacturability of new designs
  • Recommend and improve initiatives and/or changes that will improve product and system quality
  • Provide quality assurance domain expertise to inspection, manufacturing, and test for the Manufacturing team
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers on quality related concerns; develop and present training materials to build quality awareness
  • Audit production processes, raw materials, or suppliers/vendors to ensure established quality standards are met
  • Conduct root cause analysis for defects, non-conformities, or other quality failures

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. in Engineering/Science
  • 5+ years’ proven experience in a Quality Engineer role in a production environment (aerospace, space launch, or military/commercial aviation preferred)
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9000 QM System and/or related quality systems and programs
  • Excellent communication skills, organized, attention to detail, and self-starter
  • Ability to support integration schedules and overtime as needed
  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

  • American Society of Quality, Certified Quality Engineer certification
  • Experience in aerospace, space launch, military/commercial aviation
  • Experience with IPC J-STD-001 (Space Addendum) and IPC 620 standard (IPC-WHMA-A-620)
  • Experience in GD&T fundamentals
  • Experience with quality tools such as lean principles, root cause analysis, and corrective action
  • Experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), control plans, and problem-solving approaches
  • Quality Management System audit experience
  • Quality performance measurement analysis capabilities
  • Six Sigma Green, Black Belt, or comparable certification

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Merchant Mariner Credential, including pre-employment and random drug testing, as well as DOT physical for certain roles
