Engineer - Project Manager, #JR-01130

About the role

This position is in the Public Works Facilities Design & Construction Division, which provides project management services to implement the City's Capital Improvement Program for building construction and major renovation projects via contractual procurement for design and construction services.

Responsibilities

• Selection of architectural and engineering services
• Negotiation of design services and evaluation of design fees
• Coordination of the design effort among City staff members and various review agencies during schematic, design development, and construction document phases
• Management of the bidding and award process
• Coordination of the construction administration phase
• Completion of the fiscal closeout of design and construction contracts
• Project management for building design and construction services
• Design and review of construction and major renovation project plans and specifications
• Prepare and review cost estimates and monitor project expenditures
• Administer construction and engineering contracts
• Review project plans for proper work sequencing, quality, and cost control
• Coordinate with City departments and outside agencies
• Communicate with City departments and the public
• Conduct field assessments and related work as required
• Engineering work entails independent actions or decisions on designs, project management and operations, and regular assignments of specialized engineering and project tasks supporting the City's facilities construction program, including program and project tracking, reporting, managing, and analyzing data to evaluate progress

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or closely related field
• Possession of a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license from the Virginia Board of Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA)
• Five years of progressive professional experience
