Provide engineering support to stakeholders within the Natural Gas Pipelines business segment as a member of the NGP Engineering Design and Standards team. Support includes repeatable capital project engineering execution, maintenance of ONEOK engineering standards, operations support, PHA facilitation, root cause analysis, equipment sizing, technical bid reviews, and compliance with DOT 192, ASME, API, and ONEOK specifications. Implement directives from NGP Engineering and Operations Services management.
Focus Areas
- Process Safety Support: Lead the initiative to complete PHAs at existing facilities. Provide HAZOP support for MOCs, Capital projects, and Operations.
- Standard & Regulatory Support: Review and update NGP Engineering Standards and Drafting Standard Designs. Integrate these standards into OMS. Provide regulatory guidance for NGP Operations.
- General Technical Support: Support active business development activities, general code and engineering standards questions, one-off technical questions, and general drafting questions.
- Operations Engineering and Drafting Support: Continuous, long-running efforts related to supporting day-to-day operations, including operations engineering support & drafting, optimization support, and troubleshooting operations issues.
- Capital Projects Engineering and Drafting: Project engineering and drafting for active capital maintenance and growth projects. Engineering support for capital projects in development (sunset between 12-24 months). Includes various new interconnect projects.
Responsibilities
- Direct, perform, coordinate, and/or approve engineering and/or project management activities related to design, procurement, construction, or optimization of company assets, including:
- Transmission and/or gathering systems, measurement and regulation facilities, compressor and pump stations, and dehydration plants
- NGL fractionation, natural gas processing, and/or hydrocarbon storage facilities
- Construction plans and implementation
- Provide technical and/or engineering assistance on matters including:
- Equipment/system design
- Pipeline sizing and evaluation
- Pipeline control
- Pipeline facility design, construction, operation, and maintenance
- Policies and procedures
- Process Safety
- Direct, perform, and review and/or approve project management activities including:
- Bid proposals and contracts
- AFE preparation and cost management
- Management of Change (MOC)
- Material/equipment specifications and selection
- Construction plans and support
- Creating and updating schedules/timelines
- Preparing project progress and other reports
- Managing change orders
- Review work by engineers regarding equipment efficiencies, hydraulic calculations, valve and pipe sizing, and gas flow analysis.
- Research, analyze, prepare, and/or approve information including:
- Engineering studies
- Governmental rules, regulations, codes, and standards
- Pipeline and/or measurement system analyses and recommendations
- Hydrocarbon processing and/or measurement bid proposals
- Construction and/or measurement contracts
- Cost estimates
- Material specifications/selections
- Oversee analysis and evaluation of various pipeline systems and review recommendations for improvements related to capacity, operating costs, and system operation.
- Act as a subject matter expert to the organization for various engineering activities; mentor less experienced engineers.
- Evaluate proposed projects by conducting load studies.
- Review and create standard drawings for various measurement system designs and make recommendations for improvements related to station capacity and operating costs, to increase accuracy of measurement system and downstream reporting systems.
- Analyze and perform economic analysis related to potential new projects, including operational cost estimates, determining equipment efficiencies, needed enhancements, and conducting studies for potential acquisitions.
- Recommend new processes and formulate new ideas; take lead role during implementation of new processes.
- Anticipate changes in work demands and identify assignments or training to meet those demands.
- Oversee utilization of manpower and equipment resources.
- Assess, schedule, and prioritize projects based on customer needs and value to the organization.
- May have oversight of employees engaged in field operations, construction, and/or project management functions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related field.
- Experience and training related to:
- Transmission/gathering pipeline operations
- Gas measurement and regulation activities
- Processing and/or storage operations
- Company/governmental operating and safety procedures
- Pipeline stress/strain analysis
- Industry best practices and design philosophy
- Experience and knowledge of engineering design and criteria for natural gas and/or NGLs in pipeline systems.
- Typically ten or more years of experience in engineering, operations, and/or project management.
- Experience achieving goals and developing employee/team strengths, exhibiting a positive example and influence that leads to employee, project, and stakeholder successes.
- Experience in use and function of applications such as Microsoft Excel, Project, Access, Word, etc.
- Experience researching and preparing project materials and design specifications, contracts, agreements, budgets, engineering studies, and other relevant reports, forms, and correspondence.
- Experience identifying, researching, evaluating, and prioritizing operational problems and determining appropriate action/response.
- Experience with and knowledge of pipelines or hydrocarbon processing and related facilities design, construction, operation, and maintenance.
- Experience with material failure and structural analysis and thorough knowledge of industry standards and governmental regulations.
- Experience reading and interpreting governmental regulations, blueprints, contracts, manuals, specifications, surveys, charts, load studies, and other relevant reports and correspondence.
- Experience reviewing and approving complex engineering drawings and material.
