Engineer Intern - Full/Time

The SCA’s Architecture and Engineering Department develops scope, design, and construction documents for new school buildings, additions, lease conversions, and renovation work of existing schools for New York City’s approximately 1.1 million students. Our projects are intentionally and thoughtfully designed; positive impact design is at the forefront of all our work. Our In-House studio is a multidisciplinary practice responsible for designing some of the largest and most complex schools in our 1,500+ school portfolio, as well as renovation work to existing schools. Our other two studios manage external consultants from design inception to completion. Our three studios comprise talented architects and engineers driven to deliver high-quality, custom-designed, sustainable, and resilient public schools.

About the role

This is a temporary 18-month full-time position. The Engineering Intern is responsible for performing a wide range of elementary engineering work and related technical tasks and duties in a variety of assignments. The incumbent receives training in engineering work related to the Authority’s mission.

Responsibilities

• Apply engineering and related principles while learning practices as used by the Authority.
• Perform drafting, design, detailing, and simple calculations.
• Make site or field observations under direct supervision.
• Perform related tasks.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree in Engineering.
• A satisfactory combination of education and experience.

Pay

Appointment Rate: $62,638 – $84,361
Incumbent Rate: $72,034 – $97,015
Subject to the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the appointment rate for any newly hired employee, or employees with less than two years of active City or SCA service, shall be 15% less than the applicable incumbent rate or step.
