Responsibilities

  • Develop expertise with SPP power system analysis tools and processes
  • Apply concepts related to powerflow and transmission planning
  • Develop, use, and instruct transmission planning tools such as PROMOD, Powerbase, PAT, PSS/E, Capacity Expansion software, and Microsoft Office
  • Complete study assignments directed by supervision or stakeholder committees
  • Lead or support complex technical processes for transmission planning and CPP-related efforts; delegation of assignments may be required
  • Responsible for technical content in the CPP Report and STEP Reports approved by the Board of Directors
  • Cook up and coordinate study scopes
  • Support the CPP, Tariff Studies, Regional Cost Allocation Review (RCAR), and Coordinated System Plan Study processes
  • Maintain detailed understanding of governing documents and processes as required
  • Coordinate SPP transmission planning process, results, and analysis with neighboring ISOs, RTOs, and Planning Authorities

Qualifications

  • Combined Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from a university meeting Professional Engineering exam requirements (ABET-accredited institution or graduate degree from an ABET-accredited institution); degree must be calculus-based; preferred fields include Electrical, Computer, Industrial, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering; Engineer II: 2 years of relevant engineering experience; Senior Engineer: 5 years of relevant engineering experience; PE License preferred
  • Engineer II Qualifications: 2 years of relevant engineering experience; PE License may satisfy one year of experience requirement
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in the electric utility industry; Professional Engineer License
  • Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in a related field of study
