EngineeringFull-time

Butterfly Network, Inc. (NYSE: BFLY) is driving a digital revolution in ultrasound imaging and sensing with its proprietary Ultrasound-on-Chip™ semiconductor technology and software solutions. Butterfly first proved its technology in the point-of-care ultrasound market – commercializing the world’s first single-probe, whole-body portable ultrasound device, which is now on its best-selling, third-generation: Butterfly iQ3™. The Company combines its advanced hardware with cloud software and AI, an enterprise workflow solution (Compass AI™), and other offerings to drive adoption of affordable, accessible ultrasound. Butterfly also enables third-party development of imaging AI apps through Butterfly Garden™, its software development kit, and AI partnership initiative. In addition to its medical imaging products, Butterfly Embedded™ is the Company’s Ultrasound-on-Chip™ licensing and co-development program designed to enable a new wave of ultrasound-enabled technologies across non-competitive healthcare markets and beyond.

About the role

We are looking for a hands-on QA Engineer to join our Software QA team in New York City. This is a hybrid in-person role for someone who enjoys using the product, finding what others miss, and working directly with engineers and product partners to make every release better. You will spend most of your time testing real product workflows across our mobile applications, cloud software, and connected ultrasound devices. You do not need to know everything on day one. You do need to be curious, thorough, comfortable speaking up, and excited to learn how a medical technology product is built and released.

Responsibilities

  • Test new features and existing workflows across mobile applications, cloud software, and connected devices.
  • Create clear, practical test cases and execute functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Use Butterfly products regularly and test the full experience from device to mobile application to cloud platform.
  • Work closely with Product, Engineering, Design, Regulatory, and Quality teams to understand requirements and identify issues early.
  • Document defects clearly, including steps to reproduce, expected behavior, actual behavior, screenshots, logs, and other useful details.
  • Verify fixes and help the team make sound release decisions based on product risk and customer impact.
  • Improve our test coverage, test data, release checklists, and day-to-day QA practices as you grow in the role.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of hands-on software testing experience, or equivalent experience demonstrating strong product judgment and attention to detail.
  • Experience testing mobile applications, web applications, or cloud-connected products.
  • A practical understanding of test planning, test execution, regression testing, and defect management.
  • Strong written communication and the ability to explain a problem clearly and objectively.
  • Comfort working closely with engineers and product partners in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experience with bug-tracking and test-management tools, such as Jira.

Nice-to-have experience

  • Experience in medical devices, healthcare, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience in testing mobile applications that connect to hardware or external devices.
  • Experience creating or maintaining automated tests.
  • Experience using logs, browser tools, API clients, or basic SQL to investigate issues.

Values

  • Patient-Centric Innovators: Our mission is THE mission.
  • Empowered to Impact: Every voice matters.
  • One Team, One Goal: Unity fuels progress.
  • Growth Champions: We embrace challenges.
  • Action-Oriented Achievers: We follow through, every time.

Location

Butterfly offers a hybrid work model for most positions, with team members spending two or more days a week in the office. While flexibility is key, we value in-person connections that spark creativity and teamwork. Our offices are designed for collaboration, with comfortable workspaces, stocked kitchens, and opportunities to connect with peers. This is a hybrid position and will be based in our New York City, NY office.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health insurance, encompassing dental and vision coverage.
  • Annual contributions to Health Savings Account (HSA) accounts for all enrolled employees.
  • Comprehensive Employee Assistance Program to support emotional health and day-to-day needs.
  • 401k plan with company match.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) for eligible employees.
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off + 10 Holiday Days a Year.
  • Parental Leave with additional support for primary caregivers transitioning back to work.
  • Competitive salaried compensation.
  • Equity – every employee is a stakeholder.

Pay

Our estimated salary for this role based in NYC is around $85,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Actual pay is determined by multiple factors such as skills, qualifications, experience, and market demand.
