Engineer - Forward-Deployed

About the Role

The Forward-Deployed Engineer designs, builds, and deploys AI-driven decision-support surfaces and human-in-the-loop interfaces across multiple portfolio companies. This hands-on role involves integrating AI models, developing user-facing workbenches, and ensuring regulatory compliance within regulated workflows. The engineer collaborates closely with data and ML teams, field operators, and leadership to scope solutions, drive adoption, and maintain operational hygiene. They own the full lifecycle of deployment, monitoring, and architecture decisions to create reusable patterns across various business lines.

Responsibilities

• Build decision-support engines and adapters for multiple lines of business.
• Develop human-in-the-loop decision surfaces, including workbenches and copilots.
• Design workflows adhering to regulatory and fiduciary standards, preserving human decision points.
• Partner with data and ML engineers to serve models and data efficiently.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to scope solutions and promote adoption.
• Own deployment, CI, operational hygiene, and monitoring to ensure reliability.
• Contribute to architectural decisions for reusable, scalable surfaces across portfolio companies.

Requirements

• 5+ years experience shipping production software, ideally as a founding or forward-deployed engineer.
• Full-stack proficiency in modern frontend/backend, with experience in TypeScript/React preferred.
• Hands-on experience with AI-backed product features, including orchestration and retrieval.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude).
• Ownership of deployment and operations without dedicated platform teams.
• Experience working closely with users, scoping solutions, and shipping rapidly.
• Understanding of human-in-the-loop and regulated workflow design, handling sensitive data securely.
• Strong communication skills and ability to prioritize across multiple projects.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in regulated domains such as healthcare, insurance, or financial services.
• Previous early-stage or startup experience as a founding or forward-deployed engineer.
• Proven track record of building and deploying products directly to end-users with no platform team support.
