Engineer, Environmental

About the Role

The incumbent will develop, implement, and monitor the environmental program at Mark Anthony’s Glendale, AZ, Brewery. They will work closely with brewery stakeholders and local, state, and federal agencies to manage the brewery’s environmental impact.

Responsibilities

• Support the development, administration, and implementation of environmental, safety, and health programs in accordance with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 registrations, including regulatory requirements from the EPA, OSHA, and USDOT.
• Determine impact on site operations and provide compliance strategies.
• Interact with federal, state, and local regulators regarding inquiries or compliance activities.
• Assess and monitor site compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
• Conduct site regulatory compliance audits and perform compliance sampling for lab analysis.
• Prepare regulatory and company reports, including permit applications and monitoring reports.
• Develop work plans for site and field investigation activities and implement investigation protocols.
• Manage and update environmental programs and permits for wastewater discharge, storm water, hazardous waste, SPCC, and other regulatory requirements.
• Review and analyze internal Command Media documents and external regulations from the EPA, DEP, and USDOT.
• Evaluate proposed regulations for financial, industrial, public, and environmental impact.
• Facilitate environmental incident prevention, investigation, and reporting to appropriate agencies.
• Direct the facility’s waste minimization program and monitor waste streams to reduce waste generation.
• Monitor the wastewater treatment system to ensure permit compliance and direct water conservation activities.
• Participate in environmental incident investigations.
• Conduct site assessments and remediation, including brownfields, well installation, test pits, and subsurface investigations per ASTM, state, and federal requirements.
• Prepare technical reports, memos, response-to-comments tables, and diagrams.
• Assist with cost estimating and obtaining bids from vendors and subcontractors.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental engineering.
• 3–5 years of Environmental Engineering experience within a manufacturing or industrial work environment.
• Minimum of 1 year of professional Environmental Health & Safety (ESH) experience in a manufacturing, test, or industrial environment.
• Experience preparing environmental permit applications.
• Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations and compliance programs.
• ESH experience in industrial safety, material handling, NFPA Life Safety Code, lock-out-tag-out, hazard recognition, and other safety programs.
• Experience administering environmental compliance training.
• Familiarity with all environmental media (air, water/wastewater, waste).
• Ability to ensure regulatory compliance with minimal supervision.
• Site assessment, remediation, and water resources experience, with knowledge of related federal and state regulatory statutes.
• Certified Hazardous Materials Management (CHMM), Safety Professional certification (CSP), or other nationally recognized ESH certifications (preferred).
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to travel, work in the field, and work outdoors.

Working Conditions

• Work indoors and outdoors in all seasonal elements.
• Capable of considerable walking and lifting up to 40 pounds.
• Medically certified to wear a self-contained breathing apparatus.
• Controlled exposure to chemicals including chlorine, ammonia, sodium hydroxide, sodium hypochlorite, ferric chloride, sodium bicarbonate, phosphoric and sulfuric acids, bio-solids, raw wastewater, biocides, and others.
• This position is identified as safety-sensitive within the state of Arizona.
