Engineer, Environmental

About the Role

The incumbent will develop, implement, and monitor the environmental program at Mark Anthony’s Glendale, AZ, Brewery. They will work closely with brewery stakeholders and local, state, and federal agencies to manage the brewery’s environmental impact.

Responsibilities

• Support the development, administration, and implementation of environmental, safety, and health programs in accordance with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 registrations, including regulatory requirements from the EPA, OSHA, and USDOT.
• Determine impact on site operations and provide support for compliance strategies.
• Interact with federal, state, and local regulators regarding inquiries or compliance activities.
• Assess and monitor site compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations; work with plant personnel to ensure compliance.
• Conduct site regulatory compliance audits.
• Perform site compliance sampling and submit samples to labs for analysis.
• Prepare applicable regulatory and company reports.
• Develop work plans for site and field investigation activities.
• Manage and implement site and field investigation protocols.
• Handle regulatory agency submittals, including permit applications and monitoring reports.
• Manage and update all environmental programs and permits for wastewater discharge, storm water, hazardous waste, SPCC, and other regulatory requirements.
• Review and analyze internal Command Media documents and documentation from federal agencies (EPA, DEP, USDOT).
• Evaluate proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, public, and environmental impact.
• Facilitate environmental incident prevention and investigation processes; prepare reports for appropriate agencies.
• Direct the facility’s waste minimization program; monitor waste streams to eliminate or minimize waste generation.
• Monitor wastewater treatment systems to ensure permit compliance and direct water conservation activities.
• Participate in environmental incident investigations.
• Conduct site assessments and remediation, including brownfields, well installation, monitoring, test pits, and subsurface investigations per ASTM, state, and federal requirements.
• Prepare technical reports, memos, response-to-comments tables, and diagrams.
• Assist with cost estimating and obtaining bids from vendors and subcontractors.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental engineering.
• 3–5 years of Environmental Engineering experience within a manufacturing or industrial work environment.
• Previous experience (internship or full-time) focusing on Environmental Health & Safety; minimum of 1 year.
• Professional ESH experience in a manufacturing, test, or industrial environment.
• Experience preparing environmental permit applications.
• Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA and environmental requirements, regulations, and compliance programs.
• ESH experience in industrial safety, material handling, NFPA Life Safety Code, lock-out-tag-out, hazard recognition, and other industrial safety programs.
• Experience administering environmental compliance training.
• Familiarity with all environmental media (air, water/wastewater, waste).
• Ability to ensure regulatory compliance with minimal direct supervision.
• Site assessment, remediation, and water resources experience; knowledge of related federal and state regulatory statutes.

Preferred Skills

• Certified Hazardous Materials Management (CHMM), Safety Professional certification (CSP), or other nationally recognized ESH certifications.
• General understanding and experience with statistical analysis of environmental data using software such as ProUCL, Microsoft Excel, or R.
• Experience reviewing and managing environmental data and databases using Microsoft Access or R.
• Experience with proposal writing and business development.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to travel, work in the field, and work outdoors.

Working Conditions

• Work inside and outside in all seasonal elements.
• Capable of considerable walking and lifting up to 40 pounds.
• Medically certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
• Controlled exposure to chemicals including chlorine, ammonia, sodium hydroxide, sodium hypochlorite, ferric chloride, sodium bicarbonate, phosphoric and sulfuric acids, bio-solids, raw wastewater, biocides, and others.
• This position is identified as safety-sensitive within the state of Arizona.
