About the role

The anticipated salary range represents the estimated base pay for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors, and may vary from the posted range.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within assigned system(s)
  • Provide technical direction to maintenance personnel and controls technician team to support routine and non-routine equipment repair work
  • Produce and maintain configuration control for technical documentation that governs the system design, configuration, and operation of NNS systems
  • Develop a long-range strategic plan for improvements of assigned systems and equipment
  • Develop and maintain critical system metrics
  • Oversee project/system testing to ensure system meets technical requirements and operates at peak performance

Requirements

  • Candidate preferred to have some electrical engineering experience with electrical infrastructure, and low voltage power distribution
  • Candidate preferred to have some electrical engineering experience with controls, ladder logic, programming and integration of robotic automation
  • Candidate preferred to have experience in development, troubleshooting, and repairing communication networks
  • Knowledge of ANSI/TIA standards

Qualifications

  • Must Have: Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Skills

  • PLC programming and logic development (various programming languages)
  • Robotics/machine automation
  • Human Machine Interfaces (HMI)
  • Network Communication Protocols
  • Relay interfaces
  • Technical aptitude and understanding of both electrical and mechanical components and how they work together as a system
  • Development and/or interpretation of electrical, mechanical and controls schematics
