Engineer 2nd Class
About the role
The Engineer 2nd Class operates and maintains various components of the heating ventilation, air conditioning systems, laundry and dietary equipment. Responsibilities include performing corrective and preventative maintenance, installing, replacing, and testing equipment and components of the systems. Additionally, the role involves implementing HVAC safety, life safety, patient safety, and infection prevention measures, conducting routine environmental and safety rounds, troubleshooting HVAC equipment issues, documenting and prioritizing work orders, and providing routine maintenance on generators.
Responsibilities
- Performs corrective, preventative maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems, including air handlers, exhaust fans, energy recovery units, dampers, sensors, and controls.
- Maintains all related machinery in the boiler plant, hospital complex, and provides general maintenance to patient rooms and other areas.
- Implements HVAC safety, life safety, patient safety, and infection prevention measures.
- Conducts routine environmental and safety rounds.
- Reads prints, reviews BAS data to evaluate HVAC equipment issues and develops appropriate plans of action and repairs.
- Troubleshoots and repairs HVAC equipment.
- Documents and prioritizes all work orders called in by departments.
- Identifies problem sources, repairs problems, and/or corrects issues until specialists can be dispatched.
- Loads work orders and PM requests upon completion.
- Provides routine maintenance on generators, including checking oil, water, battery, and fuel levels, ensuring generators are always ready to run, and performing maintenance on towers, chillers, and boilers.
- Ensures adequate supplies of chemicals and reagents are maintained in stock.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience.
- Preferred: 3 years of experience with operating engineer/hospital maintenance.
- Certification: Second Class Air Conditioning (City of New Orleans One Stop Permits & Licenses, UMC); Second Class Boiler's License (City of New Orleans One Stop Permits & Licenses, UMC).
- Experience with heating, air conditioning, hydronic systems, air moving, and filtration equipment.
- Thorough understanding of building/room pressurization and indoor air quality.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, equipment, and electrical testing equipment requiring manual dexterity.
- Knowledge of complex oral and written instructions, schematic drawings, and layouts.
- Working knowledge of MS Office software products.
- Sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population.
- Ability to work alternative/shift work schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime hours.
- Operate building automation system.
- Climb ladders.
- Handle heavy lifting.
- Work in crawl spaces, tunnels, and tight areas that may be dirty and noisy.
- Respond quickly during emergency situations.

Pay
