About the role

This Engine Shop Service Technician position is responsible for performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of diesel-powered or natural gas industrial engines or related components, following established procedures and guidelines. The role requires working independently or as a team to provide mechanical services that satisfy customer needs and achieve departmental goals.

Responsibilities

  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses industrial diesel and natural gas engines
  • Disassembles and assembles of machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
  • Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
  • Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
  • Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
  • Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
  • Mentors and helps train other technicians
  • Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
  • Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths

Requirements

  • Four or more years of diesel or natural gas engines experience
  • Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred

Skills

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of industrial diesel and natural gas engine rebuilding
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems-CAT ET & CAT SIS
  • Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
  • Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • The ability to read, write, and understand information
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

Work Environment

Regularly works indoors in a shop environment, around moving mechanical parts. May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times. Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment. Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment. Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina. Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment. Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment. Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.

Schedule

The hours for this position are Monday through Friday 4:00 PM to 12:30 PM. Must be willing to work extra hours as needed.
