Eng Tech I/II (Operations)

About the role

Performs a variety of duties in assisting technical personnel, peers, engineers and management on various production support, research, and development projects.

Responsibilities

• Checks equipment for proper operation, condition and calibration
• Assists and works with other Engineering Technicians of all levels in the familiarization and performance of processes, techniques, and procedures within their related areas
• Adheres to operating procedures and other operating standards with a high degree of accuracy, with particular emphasis on those pertaining to safety & security
• Produces legible, correct, and accurate records, inspections, and analysis
• Develops and assists in developing new and improved inspection methods to increase safety and productivity as well as performs proper housekeeping duties
• Makes observations and reports unusual occurrences or events that may affect safety, quality, or understanding of experiments or operations
• Demonstrates the ability to methodically perform tasks and assigned functions
• Ensures that operations are conducted according to all applicable environmental, safety, health, and management requirements
• Assists professional staff with the training of other Engineering Technicians as assigned
• Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, DOE, corporate and plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and plant-wide operating policies and procedures

Requirements

• Experience operating CMM equipment, able to perform “shop floor programming” using PC DMIS, inspection techniques and familiarization with PC-DMIS software and/or PC-DMIS certifications, manufacturing background preferred
• Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in an Engineering or Engineering Technology technical field
• Any combination of the above experience satisfactory to line management in the performance of work as stated in the functions and responsibilities of this job description

Qualifications

High School diploma or General Equivalency Development (GED) DOE Order 426.2A Requirements. In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).

Skills

Ability to understand and interpret geometrical, dimensional and tolerancing (GD&T) callouts as well as marking instructions for manufactured components. Ability to use measurement tools, perform safety-sensitive duties, and work in a fast-paced environment with constant noise, grease and oils, solvents and degreasing agents, and radiation exposure.

Working Conditions

Requires the ability to lift or carry 40 pounds, straight pulling or pushing 1 hour/day, reaching above shoulder level, ability to keyboard, repetitive motion of the wrist/forearm, walking 2 hours/day, standing 2 hours/day, normal far vision in at least one eye correctable to 20/40 (20 feet), near vision, and depth perception.
