Energy Services Electrical Technician
Location: North Fort Myers, FL
Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
About the role
Install, inspect, and troubleshoot LCEC Energy Services products and programs; provide energy-efficiency advisement by performing on-site energy surveys and virtual usage analysis by phone; resolve member inquiries and escalations in accordance with service standards. Promote products and educate members, businesses, and internal teams on energy efficiency through outreach, product demonstrations, and public-speaking engagements where media may be present. Support net-metering interconnection processes by reviewing one-line diagrams for accuracy and code/utility compliance and coordinating follow-up actions with appropriate departments and member contractors.
Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, test, troubleshoot, and maintain company-installed products and controllers including Load Management receivers, surgeSENSE surge suppressors, and GenerLink transfer switches connected to member-owned equipment such as HVAC systems, water heaters, pool pumps, meter sockets, and electrical panels.
- Investigate and resolve member inquiries; create reports relating to inquiries, inspections, and/or emergency call-outs.
- Support departmental projects, initiatives, and special assignments by participating in test studies and providing technical support.
- Achieve predetermined monthly and yearly installation goals for assigned programs; resolve special or exceptional installation needs according to company safety procedures.
- Promote and educate members, associations, businesses, and colleagues on LCEC’s products, programs, and services, as well as applicable best practices.
- Participate in the research, development, and promotion of new products, programs, and services.
- Comply with State of Florida Motor Vehicle Laws, local, county, and federal ordinances, LCEC Accident Prevention guidelines, National Electrical Code (NEC) Safety guidelines, and LCEC’s Safety Policy.
- Conduct on-site residential and basic commercial energy surveys; advise members on ways to improve energy efficiency in alignment with defined service standards; create professional summaries of site visits and provide to members.
- Perform energy-usage analytics virtually by phone using meter and usage data; assist members in identifying usage patterns and abnormalities and provide energy-savings tips.
- Take corrective action and follow up with appropriate departments if a meter test, rebilling, or additional member contact is needed.
- Review and approve/deny renewable-generation-system (RGS) single-line electrical drawings; perform calculations to verify the correct interconnection tier; communicate with members/contractors by phone/email to clarify LCEC’s Net Metering standards and safe interconnection requirements.
- Provide office support for Energy Services programs: Load Management, surgeSENSE, GenerLink, and Net Metering.
- Communicate technical information and concepts to internal and external members as a company representative at community events, product demonstrations, or as a subject-matter expert (SME).
- Maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers at all levels within LCEC; ensure smooth operations, productive communications, and effective understanding during all interpersonal contacts.
- Support Storm Restoration efforts when needed; work in emergency storm situations (e.g., hurricanes) and work long hours (>12 hours per day) for many continuous days/weeks as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent with formal training in basic electricity and formal coursework or experience using the National Electrical Code (Required).
- 1–2 years of experience working directly with customers/members (Required).
- 5–7 years of work experience in the electrical field (troubleshooting, service, construction, and basic control circuitry), including use of state, county, and local ordinance codes, policies, and procedures relating to electrical installations (Required).
- 1–2 years of experience troubleshooting electrical and load controls for HVAC systems (Preferred).
- Less than 1 year of experience in marketing and/or public speaking (Preferred).
- 2–5 years of experience in energy auditing or customer/member energy advisement (Preferred).
- 5–7 years of relevant experience or a Journeyman Electrician’s license in Florida performing electrical installation, troubleshooting, and resolving customer issues/requests, including experience with net metering/interconnection requirements (Preferred).
Skills
- Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and CRM applications (Required).
- Understanding of home construction, practices, and resource efficiencies (Required).
- Ability to analyze and resolve customer issues through strong interpersonal skills and professional problem-solving methodology (Required).
- Proficient math skills to calculate appliance/equipment energy usage based on energy labels and run-time (Required).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written (Required).
- Public speaking proficiency in front of large audiences (Preferred).
- Bilingual (fluent English/conversational Spanish) (Preferred).
- Ability to read and review electrical one-line diagrams and apply applicable code and utility net metering/interconnection requirements (Preferred).
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Florida driver’s license with a good driving record (Required).
- Current electrical or HVAC training, accreditation, or certification (Preferred).
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional (PVIP) certification (Preferred).
- Degree or certification in energy auditing (e.g., BPI Home Energy Professional (HEP) Energy Auditor, RESNET HERS Rater Certification) (Preferred).
