Energy Advisor I

About the role

This position performs residential energy assessments for energy efficiency programs serving Champaign County and the greater Central Illinois area. The Energy Advisor coordinates and conducts home energy assessments for qualified participants, analyzes client energy needs, provides education, and installs energy-saving measures such as LED lightbulbs, faucet aerators, showerheads, and smart thermostats.

Responsibilities include completing and submitting program documents, participating in outreach activities, and achieving required certifications within specified timeframes (Building Performance Institute Building Analyst/Envelope Professional and/or Illinois Weatherization Housing Assistance Program Training Certification).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct home energy assessments for program participants.
  • Analyze client energy needs and provide education on energy-saving measures.
  • Install energy efficiency measures, including LED lightbulbs, faucet aerators, showerheads, and smart thermostats.
  • Perform energy efficiency and safety testing.
  • Complete and submit program documents for project development.
  • Participate in outreach and awareness-raising activities.
  • Document assessments with photos, site maps, and electronic devices.
  • Communicate home conditions and energy efficiency opportunities to clients and contractors.
  • Manage and maintain product inventory, equipment, and company vehicles.
  • Generate data reports in various formats to support analysis and program reporting.
  • Travel throughout Champaign County and Central Illinois to conduct services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. (some college coursework preferred).
  • Exposure to residential construction, HVAC, plumbing, building inspections, maintenance, weatherization, or energy efficiency (preferred).
  • Ability to achieve Building Performance Institute Building Analyst/Envelope Professional Certification within 90 days of start date (training provided).
  • Ability to complete Weatherization Training Certification Program (TCP) within 10 months of start date (training provided).
  • Experience with modular, mobile, or site-built homes (a bonus).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the program coverage area.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in English (spelling, punctuation, grammar); Spanish fluency desirable.
  • User-level knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and report generation.
  • Computer skills for data entry and report generation in various formats.
  • Ability to lift testing equipment (~40 pounds), climb stairs/ladders, and work in confined spaces.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, self-starter with ability to prioritize workload.
  • Knowledge and respect for diverse cultures, lifestyles, and community challenges.
  • Openness to constructive feedback and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
