About the role
The Accountant - Energy/Back Office is an experienced professional responsible for compiling and preparing general ledger entries, maintaining fuel inventories, and supporting the development of metrics to manage business risks.
Responsibilities
- Compile and prepare general ledger entries for fuel transactions.
- Prepare account reconciliations monthly to substantiate general ledger balances.
- Reconcile monthly statements and communicate data to Front Office for fuel cost assignment.
- Aid in the preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual reports, including LPSC FAC and EAC filings and FERC filings.
- Maintain and reconcile fuel inventories in the appropriate system.
- Support the General Accounting Manager with the development and implementation of metrics.
- Analyze historical data and identify trends to improve decision-making.
- Engage in process improvement initiatives to enhance Energy/Back Office service delivery.
- Use data and analytics to support continuous improvement and automation of routine tasks.
- Exercise ethical business conduct and comply with relevant laws and regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- 3+ years of related experience.
- Experience with Financial Systems/SAP preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft tools and applications required.
- Experience with MISO preferred.
- Knowledge of GAAP, Internal Control processes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, and project management skills.
- Willingness and ability to learn new technologies.
- Ability to exercise judgment and escalate issues appropriately.
- Proficient in functioning within a team environment.
