Functional Area: Energetic Materials

About the role

The Energetic Materials Lead is responsible for providing work direction to staff in the production of powders, oversight of inventory, and ongoing job/project management to ensure production has materials needed to meet customer and company needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes leadership role for all powder production; provides oversight and communication to Energetic Materials staff and production to maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Assists in providing employee direction, training, and safety.
  • Understands, follows, and enforces company policies and procedures governing safety standards and work rules.
  • Operates equipment as needed and ensures a neat and organized work area per company housekeeping policy.
  • Monitors work flow to ensure powders are completed on time, downtime is minimized, and work is distributed equally.
  • Identifies waste in area of responsibility and works to eliminate it.
  • Responsible for hazardous waste management functions, including labeling and ensuring proper handling.
  • Evaluates effective methods of production and implements improvements through the product team.
  • Drives company vehicles as required.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States (ITAR restrictions).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) per ATF regulations.
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required; at least 2 years of related experience required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a driver’s license to operate company vehicles upon hire.
  • Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role is preferred.
  • Ability to lead in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • General background in automated manufacturing and prior experience in an explosives manufacturing setting is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and ability to learn internal computer systems and applications.
  • Ability to communicate and document effectively in English.
  • RCRA Training upon hire.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, multi-task, and establish priorities.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Ability to talk and hear to communicate with others.
  • Seated work up to 30% of the workday.
  • Frequently required to stand and/or walk both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Lifting, pushing, or pulling of up to 50 pounds is required; ability to move materials over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Bending, squatting, or kneeling required for lifting or moving materials.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus when viewing a computer monitor.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives.
  • Ear protection is required as identified throughout the facility.
  • Must wear a fire suit to mitigate burn risk when working with powders.
  • Must wear a minimum of 50 percent cotton clothing, including undergarments, to mitigate electrostatic discharge (ESD).
  • Must wear company-issued safety footwear.
