About the role

Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment. Responsible for providing Emergency Room technical support while receiving direction from Providers, Nurses, and Paramedics to optimize patient care. Will perform a wide variety of patient support services including, but not limited to, maintaining a clean and safe environment for the patients and providing selected patient care services.

Location: Methodist Fremont Health, 450 E 23rd St., Fremont, NE.

Responsibilities

  • Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment, as outlined in the Age Specific Criteria.
  • Works with all members of the department in a team approach in the delivery of patient care.
  • Takes a systems approach to problem solving and process improvement, with an emphasis on patient safety.
  • Awareness of patients' needs prioritizes needs of the patients and works to fulfill those needs; reports findings to the RN/Providers/Paramedics.
  • Orients patients to treatment rooms, call light, informing patient of plan of care, duration, and time that they will be back.
  • Assists Emergency providers, nurses, and paramedics with procedures including application of orthopedic splints and simple laceration procedures.
  • Performs direct patient care as assigned by an RN, including vital signs, assistance in triage, performs EKGs, point of care testing, wound care, obtains lab specimens, and performs duties under licensures.
  • Requests and collects necessary supplies and equipment; transports to assigned areas.
  • Properly cleans equipment and rooms in between patients, while stocking necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Covers the front reception area as directed.

Schedule

  • (3) 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p) one week and (2) 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p) the next week.
  • Every 4th weekend rotation.
  • Employee self-schedule.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) training program.
  • Current valid EMT license required.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal relations with patients, co-workers, physicians, and guests.
  • Respectable technical skills to assure patient safety.
  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions; acts as a liaison between primary care providers and emergency providers.
