EMT - FT - Days - MWH

About the Role

This position provides clinical and technical support procedures, assists nurses and medical staff to ensure quality care, and performs clerical, communication, and other related duties to facilitate the efficient functioning of Care Center services. The incumbent supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and demonstrates a commitment to quality service for patients, physicians, the public, and co-workers.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates performance according to expectations and standards set by the position description.
• Collaborates with MWHC/ED staff, nursing, and physicians both verbally and through accurate documentation.
• Assists nurses in collecting patient data and specimens.
• Performs designated patient care procedures to support nurses and medical staff.
• Participates in the unit and MWHC infection control plan and performance improvement process.
• Assists the Manager with Regulatory Readiness as needed.
• Participates in the unit risk management plan.
• Demonstrates effective communication, customer service, and team-building skills.
• Accepts responsibility for professional growth, development, and regulatory/education requirements.
• Maintains licensure or certifications required for the position.
• Performs clerical responsibilities using hospital information systems.
• Facilitates communication between diagnostic/testing areas, patient care areas, and families.
• Answers patient call lights and communicates requests to appropriate personnel.
• Functions as a customer-friendly unit receptionist for associates, physicians, patients, families, and visitors.
• Maintains a safe and orderly environment, coordinating equipment/supply needs.
• Assists with cleaning and maintaining equipment, reporting malfunctions as needed.
• Initiates emergency procedures as directed.
• Performs venipuncture, starts IVs, and collects/transports specimens with proper labeling.
• Applies cardiac monitors and performs 12-lead EKGs.
• Sets up sterile trays for suturing/sterile procedures.
• Inserts Foley catheters when appropriate and documents intake/output.
• Performs splinting and/or application of orthopedic adjuncts per physician orders.
• Performs any other duties as appropriate, including duties of other care team members.
• Performs Communication Coordinator duties as needed.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Current Virginia State EMT Certification and/or National Registry required.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR certification required at hire.
• One (1) year of EMT, military corpsman, or clinical-related experience preferred.
• AHA ACLS and PALS certifications preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Constant (67-100% of workday) walking, standing, use of arms and hands.
• Frequent (34-66% of workday) bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting.
• Ability to lift 35 lbs. and push/pull 20 lbs.
• Auditory and visual skills, including color determination.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and reach overhead.

Pay

Compensation pay range: $20.91 - $29.28 per hour.
