About the role

The White Earth Reservation Business Committee is seeking a qualified EMT to provide emergency medical care to the White Earth Reservation and surrounding areas. This role involves assessing injuries, administering emergency medical care, extricating trapped individuals, transporting patients to medical facilities, and performing training for the service, including Minnesota State-authorized EMR and EMT classes.

Responsibilities

• Administer first-aid treatment and life support care to sick or injured persons in pre-hospital settings.
• Assess the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize emergency medical procedures.
• Perform variance skills under a physician’s direction, including venipuncture, intraosseous access, intramuscular access, blind advanced airway procedure, and automated external defibrillation, according to protocols.
• Administer medications by mouth, intranasal, intravenous, intraosseous, intramuscular, and sublingual routes.
• Operate equipment such as automatic external defibrillators, radios, hydraulic cots, and suctioning devices in basic life support environments.
• Maintain vehicles, medical and communication equipment, and replenish first aid supplies.
• Request advanced life support intercept when patient condition warrants advanced skills.
• Coordinate work with other emergency medical team members, police/sheriff departments, and fire departments to ensure proper patient care.
• Observe, record, and report patient’s condition, treatment provided, reactions to drugs, and medical history to physicians or emergency medical personnel.
• Communicate with dispatchers, law enforcement, and treatment facility personnel to provide situation updates, arrange patient reception, and receive further instructions.
• Share encrypted Wi-Fi communications with receiving hospitals regarding patients’ vital signs and cardiac monitor findings.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge of and ability to follow policies and procedures of the White Earth Tribal Council and the White Earth Ambulance Service.
• Knowledge of federal laws, including HIPAA, government regulations, and federal privacy acts.
• Knowledge of techniques needed to treat human injuries and illnesses.
• Knowledge of computer operations and applicable software.
• Skilled in customer service and ability to interact with internal and external customers tactfully and diplomatically.
• Ability to work cooperatively within a group to ensure successful and effective outcomes.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Ability to attend in-person or online classroom training, maintain staff training for variances, and keep certifications current.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• EMT licensure issued through the State of Minnesota and National Certification (or willingness to obtain national certification upon hire).
• Current CPR Certification.
• Current CPR Instructor certification (or willingness to acquire certification).
• Valid Driver’s license and insurance for travel between sites and related business.
