About the role
Provides direct patient care prior to and during transport for all patient populations including neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric, guided by protocols.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients with medical conditions and accurately document findings in the patient record.
- Prioritize and anticipate patients' needs; develop and implement individualized plans of care.
- Administer interventions in accordance with established protocols and document patients' responses to treatment.
- Continuously evaluate patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary, documenting all findings and interventions.
- Prepare and maintain medical equipment and supplies; perform daily checks and ensure restocking and cleaning of the unit after each mission.
- Operate and demonstrate proficiency in the use of radios and communication systems.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new EMT personnel.
- Operate required vehicles safely and in compliance with position responsibilities.
- Participate in staffing special events as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the State of Iowa.
- One year of recent experience providing direct patient care as an EMT-B preferred.
- Valid driver's or chauffeur's license required. Must meet Mercy's Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, be at least 18 years old, and meet eligibility to drive per Iowa state law.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within three months of hire. Acceptable certifications include American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers.
- Completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the population served within three months of hire.
Schedule
Full-Time (72 Hours Biweekly), 12 Hour Day Shift.
