The listed pay range reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may differ based on assigned hours and position status (e.g., part-time).
About the Role
Provides Mental Health Screener functions as required by NJSA 30:4-27.1. Performs psychosocial assessments including collections of historical data, mental status assessments, and suicide risk assessments. Consults and collaborates with medical center staff to coordinate interdepartmental patient services. Develops comprehensive and realistic treatment plans based on patient's needs. Provides appropriate short-term follow-up to ensure linkage and stabilization. Offers advocacy and support to patients to secure treatment and services. Engages families, treatment providers, and other parties active in the well-being of the patient as appropriate. Provides technical support, assistance, and education to patients, families, and other service providers as needed. Assumes duties of charge person and mobile outreach on-call as required.
- Possesses thorough knowledge of all regulatory requirements for confidentiality.
- Demonstrates strict adherence to providing patient confidentiality as evidenced by documentation and behavior according to department policy.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date patient records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Documents in a clear, concise, and accurate manner in patient records according to department standards.
- Documents clinical assessment data, collateral information, changes in mental status, and all communications related to patient referrals, transfers, and admissions in the patient record.
- Documents all telephone triage information and ensures screening documents clearly detail reasons for consensual admission or involuntary commitment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: MSW in Social Work or MA in Counseling/Psychology or related field. LCSW or LPC preferred.
- Experience: One year of experience in an acute mental health setting.
- Other Credentials: AHA BLS (non-licensed must obtain before the end of the orientation period), valid Driver’s License.
- Special Training: Permanent NJ State Mental Health Screening Certification obtained within one year of hire.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Frequent physical demands: Standing, walking, reaching forward, keyboard use/repetitive motion.
- Occasional physical demands: Sitting, climbing (e.g., stairs or ladders), carrying objects, pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching overhead, squatting/kneeling/crawling, wrist position deviation, pinching/fine motor activities.
- Continuous physical demands: Taste or smell, talking or hearing.
- Lifting: Floor to waist: 40 lbs; Waist level and above: 40 lbs.
- Sensory Requirements: Very accurate 20/40 near and far vision, accurate depth perception, accurate hearing.
- Anticipated Occupational Exposure Risks: Bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne communicable diseases, extreme temperatures, radiation, uneven surfaces or elevations, extreme noise levels, dust/particulate matter.
