Employment Specialist

Location: Remote or office-based, depending on assignment

About the role

This is a newly created position that will continue to evolve as we build out the role and responsibilities. Under moderate supervision, you will provide effective coordination of vocational placement and return-to-work management services for Costco’s injured workers.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Claims and Costco locations to place injured workers in appropriate work environments.
• Effectively address return-to-work barriers.
• Follow up with the injured worker, employer, Claims, Costco locations, and any assigned Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant.
• Maintain accurate and thorough documentation concerning services rendered and outcomes.
• Collect and coordinate data needed by claims staff, including automated systems, claims reviews, and external contacts.
• Resolve problems and discrepancies through research and data collection.
• Provide support to claims specialists and communicate timely and effectively.
• Identify administrative inefficiencies and make recommendations to enhance workflow and productivity.

Requirements

• Knowledge of state, local, and federal laws related to vocational rehabilitation, workers’ compensation, and/or disability management.
• Strong communication skills to interact with claimants, employers, claims staff, and others.
• Negotiation skills to establish target return-to-work dates.
• Proficiency in computer software (e.g., Word, Excel).
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and at least 3 years of experience in vocational rehabilitation, disability management, workers’ compensation, job placement, or a related field.
• Bilingual ability, where required.
• Willingness to occasionally travel and work irregular hours.
