About the role
Easterseals PORT Health (ESPH) empowers individuals and strengthens communities through its mission. The Employment Peer Mentor plays a critical role in this mission by supporting people with mental illness, substance abuse, and behavioral health challenges.
Responsibilities
- Provides coaching, mentoring, and consultation to the individual served to promote recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction.
- Promotes wellness management strategies, including delivering manualized interventions and employment services.
- Aids in developing psychiatric advance directives and supports the individual in exercising their legal rights within the community.
- Assists in the Person-Centered Planning process and serves as an active member of the employment team.
- Prepares and submits documentation accurately and on time.
- Participates in peer review and successfully completes DMH-approved IPS training.
Requirements
- A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent accredited by the appropriate state department of education.
- NC Certified Peer Support Specialist certification or willingness to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
- Current, unrestricted, state-appropriate driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
- Reliable transportation to move throughout the program delivery area.
Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with clients.
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented practices and principles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Passion for supporting individuals in achieving their goals and living fulfilling lives.
Skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in using technology to support client services.
- Understanding of employment services and recovery-oriented practices.

Pay
$19-21/hour competitive hourly rate.
