About the role

Easterseals PORT Health (ESPH) empowers individuals and strengthens communities through its mission. The Employment Peer Mentor plays a critical role in this mission by supporting people with mental illness, substance abuse, and behavioral health challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and consultation to the individual served to promote recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction.
  • Promotes wellness management strategies, including delivering manualized interventions and employment services.
  • Aids in developing psychiatric advance directives and supports the individual in exercising their legal rights within the community.
  • Assists in the Person-Centered Planning process and serves as an active member of the employment team.
  • Prepares and submits documentation accurately and on time.
  • Participates in peer review and successfully completes DMH-approved IPS training.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent accredited by the appropriate state department of education.
  • NC Certified Peer Support Specialist certification or willingness to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Current, unrestricted, state-appropriate driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
  • Reliable transportation to move throughout the program delivery area.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with clients.
  • Knowledge of recovery-oriented practices and principles.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for supporting individuals in achieving their goals and living fulfilling lives.

Skills

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in using technology to support client services.
  • Understanding of employment services and recovery-oriented practices.

Pay

$19-21/hour competitive hourly rate.
