About the role

Easterseals PORT Health (ESPH) is dedicated to empowering individuals and strengthening communities through our mission of helping people reach their full potential. The Employment Peer Mentor plays a crucial role in achieving this mission by supporting individuals with mental illness, substance abuse, and behavioral health challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and consultation to the individual served to promote recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction.
  • Promotes wellness management strategies, including delivering manualized interventions such as Wellness Recovery Action Planning or Illness Management and Recovery, and employment services.
  • Aids in the development of psychiatric advance directives and assists in the Person Centered Planning process.
  • Serves as an active member of the employment team, participating in peer review, and providing employment services interventions and case coordination as needed.
  • Prepares and submits documentation accurately and within prescribed timelines.
  • Models recovery values, attitudes, beliefs, and personal actions to encourage wellness and resilience.
  • Participates in the DMH-approved IPS training and provides services according to the service definition and IPS Fidelity Model.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent accredited by the appropriate state department of education is required.
  • Must be a NC Certified Peer Support Specialist, or willing to be certified within 6 months of hire.
  • Must have current, unrestricted, state-appropriate driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
  • Must have reliable transportation that allows movement throughout the program delivery area.

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to model recovery values and attitudes.
  • Knowledge of mental health and substance use services.
  • Experience working with individuals with mental illness, substance abuse, and behavioral health challenges.

Schedule

The Employment Peer Mentor works as part of a team and while there is daily office-based work, the bulk of the work is in the community, including the street, homes, shelters, jails, and hospitals.
