About the Role

An established law firm is seeking an Employment Attorney to join and help grow its employment practice. The firm handles sophisticated matters across its practice groups and is known for maintaining a true lifestyle-oriented culture with exceptionally low turnover. This is a unique opportunity for an Employment Attorney who prefers preventative counseling and strategic HR work over litigation. Approximately 99% of the role is advice and counsel, as the firm has a separate litigation team that handles employment disputes. The firm is also open to attorneys coming from an in-house employment or HR counseling background.

Responsibilities

  • Advise employers on day-to-day California employment and HR matters.
  • Conduct workplace and employment compliance audits.
  • Draft and revise employee handbooks.
  • Develop and update workplace policies and procedures.
  • Counsel clients regarding preventative employment practices and compliance issues.
  • Work directly with clients on practical solutions to workplace and personnel matters.
  • Help support the long-term growth and development of the firm's employment practice.

Requirements

  • Licensed attorney in California.
  • 7+ years of employment law experience in California.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $185,000 - $250,000 + bonuses (quarterly billable-hour bonus opportunities and a year-end discretionary bonus).

Billables: 1560/year.

Benefits: Medical coverage through Anthem or Kaiser with a $350/month firm contribution toward employee and dependent coverage, firm-paid employee dental, 401(k) with discretionary profit sharing.

Perks

  • Exceptionally low billable requirement compared with traditional law firm employment practices.
  • Approximately 99% advice and counsel work with little to no employment litigation responsibility.
  • Sophisticated employment and HR counseling work.
  • Significant long-term growth potential and an opportunity to help grow the employment department.
  • True lifestyle-oriented firm with a fantastic work environment and almost nonexistent turnover.
  • We have placed more than 10 attorneys and legal support professionals with the firm over the past five years. They have consistently reported positive experiences, and nearly all remain with the firm.
  • Established and highly respected presence in the Orange County legal community.
