About the role

The employment consultant provides a variety of community-based employment services to individuals with disabilities seeking to become employed, advance within their current position, or reenter employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide job exploration counseling by administering the career scope (a standardized, timed interest and aptitude assessment for education and career guidance) and generate a report summarizing each assessment result.
  • Build and maintain professional and productive relationships with participants, members of participants' support networks, and funding/referral sources through ongoing communication, soliciting input, requesting satisfaction surveys, and providing thorough documented reports.
  • Develop relationships with current and potential employers, resulting in knowledge of current employment, assessment, and training opportunities for participants.
  • Maintain files according to policy and procedures to ensure consistent standards are met for regulatory entities.
  • Develop, implement, and document individualized service plans for individuals, including skills training, pre-employment training, situational assessments, job development, job coaching, and long-term support for both competitive and supported employment.
  • Assist in marketing activities by submitting stories for social media and newsletters and creating materials.
  • Participate in community activities and/or provider events coordinated by referral agencies.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, or related Human Services field plus a minimum of 2 years related experience with program development and training working with individuals with disabilities required.
  • Valid driver’s license, per state law, and/or access to reliable transportation to perform work-related travel required. Eligible drivers must have a good motor vehicle record (MVR).

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills, with the ability to become familiar with corporate-specific programs and software.
  • Detail-oriented and able to carry out work with the highest levels of accuracy.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to develop service plans for individuals with a variety of disabilities and required accommodations.
  • Must possess time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral/verbal communication skills.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit.
  • The employee may occasionally lift or move products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
