Employee Resource Information Center Technician

This is an entry-level position with the Employee Resource Information Center (ERIC) within the Division of Human Resource Management (DHRM), Department of Government Operations. The role involves providing customer service to current, former, and future State of Utah employees via phone, email, and fax; processing retirement paperwork, payroll, onboarding, and personnel actions; and maintaining accurate records in a case management system. An 8-week in-person training period is required before transitioning to a hybrid schedule (2 days in-office per week). A background check is required prior to employment.

About the role

Location: 4315 S 2700 W, Taylorsville, Utah 84129. This is a full-time, hybrid position (2 days per week required in-office). Rural employees (outside Salt Lake, Tooele, Weber, Davis, Summit, and Utah counties) may be eligible for fully remote work at agency discretion. Schedule Code: B – Competitive Career Service. Background check required; no drug test required.

Responsibilities

• Answer phone calls from future, current, and past State of Utah employees and provide appropriate statewide information
• Respond to phone, electronic, email, and fax inquiries regarding benefits, payroll, or general state employment questions; provide information or direct employees to appropriate resources
• Log each inquiry into a case management system to ensure accurate records
• Research, interpret, and apply general knowledge of human resource related reports, policies, and procedures
• Process new hire paperwork including E-Verify
• Verify payroll information and enter corrected or missed timesheets for processing
• Review and audit payroll edit reports; identify errors and return reports for corrections; audit final summary reports
• Draft and finalize state retirement worksheets
• Respond to verbal and written Employment Verification requests

Qualifications

Minimum (day-one) qualifications

• Work experience in a call center environment taking inbound calls
• Professional customer service experience including assisting difficult customers
• Human resource experience
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Skills to deal with people in a manner showing sensitivity, tact, and professionalism
• Knowledge of laws governing access to public and private records (Government Records Access and Management Act)

Preferred or trainable qualifications

• Two years of experience in human resources or in a business office environment
• An equivalent combination of higher education and proven experience

Pay

Hourly wage: $23.14 – $ (upper range not specified in posting).

Schedule

Full-time, Schedule Code B – Competitive Career Service. Hybrid: 2 days per week in-office required after 8-week in-person training period. Must be logged into phone system and available to answer calls up to 7 hours per day. Rural eligibility (outside Salt Lake, Tooele, Weber, Davis, Summit, and Utah counties) for fully remote work at agency discretion.
