Employee Benefits Financial Analyst

About the role

A Financial Analyst (FA) assists the Financial Consultants (FC) in the day-to-day needs of the business. Typical functions include gathering and auditing monthly financial data, completing initial technical sections of financial deliverables, and coordinating Stop Loss RFPs with the internal stop-loss marketing team. The FA prepares spreadsheets to display and communicate fees, premiums, total cost, and claims experience in a professional format for client presentations. The primary role is to meet the financial needs of the client in a supportive capacity, ensuring the FC can participate in client meetings and financial strategy sessions.

Responsibilities

• Completes initial level of standard financial deliverables
• Assists in drafting technical sections of reports and presentation materials
• Meets the needs of clients in a supportive role
• Recognizes the value of working with and contributing to a client team environment
• Demonstrates attention to detail and follow-through to ensure client team satisfaction
• Demonstrates appropriate urgency and responsiveness
• Actively listens, takes notes, and comprehends subject matter during and after training initiatives
• Asks probing questions to clarify understanding
• Ensures performance and output meet client team expectations
• Manages and obtains client financial data
• Consistently meets deadlines
• Proactively reaches out to the team to adhere to timelines and prepare for meetings
• Participates in updating tools and templates as projects arise
• Develops a basic understanding of employee benefits compliance requirements
• Assists with the resolution of client or vendor data and financial issues
• Gains understanding of the strategic planning process and client service cycle

Requirements

• 1-5 years of insurance experience
• Life & Health License or successfully completes Life & Health licensing course and exams within the first three months of employment
• Superior customer service and critical thinking skills, with the ability to work in a team environment
• Demonstrated proficiency with computer systems, Excel, and Microsoft Office
• Self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability or adaptability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment

Qualifications

• College degree; preferably in Finance or Math
• A working knowledge of employee benefit plans, including HMOs, PPOs, HSAs, indemnity plans, as well as ancillary coverage such as life, disability, dental, and voluntary insurances (preferred)
