About the Role

The Account Manager maintains a professional relationship with clients through exceptional customer service. This role is responsible for managing a book of business comprised of fully insured and level funded clients, obtaining clients’ trust by meeting their needs and expectations, and supporting Producers in producing new business and renewing existing business. Account Managers serve as an advocate to clients and their employees through positive relationships with carriers and continuous education.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary contact between client, prospect, agency, and producer; represent the agency in handling complaints, arbitrating disputes, or resolving grievances.
  • Handle or refer all service requests from clients.
  • Initiate and manage marketing of accounts beginning 120 days before the renewal date.
  • Gather necessary information regarding new or existing accounts and submit this information to appropriate carriers to obtain proposals.
  • Investigate carrier products, analyze and review clients’ data with carriers to recommend appropriate plans and proposals.
  • Review proposals for accuracy and work with Producers to generate proposal presentations through spreadsheets and proposal exhibits.
  • Calculate premium and payroll deductions, and audit billing statements for accuracy on behalf of clients.
  • Generate open enrollment material (e.g., enrollment guides, election forms, personalized confirmation sheets, enrollment/change forms, PowerPoint presentations) for client presentations.
  • Conduct open enrollment presentations in front of an audience.
  • Process necessary paperwork for submission to the carrier.
  • Direct a smooth transition from one carrier to another.
  • Update all accounts in the agency management system when the client changes carriers or a renewal is completed.
  • Set priorities and manage workflow to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate processing of transactions.
  • Maintain knowledge of new developments or changes with carriers and federal/state laws affecting client benefit programs; communicate this information to clients and team members.
  • Ensure client accounts are compliant, including educating and advising clients, and executing on compliance requirements and deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with insurance carriers to satisfy clients’ needs and facilitate business processing.
  • Maintain agency files accurately and consistently.
  • Process incoming mail requests accurately and swiftly.
  • Attend and complete training sessions or assignments as required.
  • Perform other related tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • 5 years of Employee Benefits and Account Management experience in the insurance field, including a strong understanding of current employee benefits, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Experience with Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Employment Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) preferred.
  • Experience with fully insured financial arrangements and alternative-funding methods preferred.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Active Life & Health License required.
  • Industry-related designations preferred.

Systems

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Applied Epic experience preferred, but knowledge of similar Account Management Systems (AMS) is acceptable.
