Job Purpose/Summary

The EmPATH Residential Counselor is a part of a multidisciplinary team that provides short-term treatment and stabilization to individuals 18 years and older presenting with psychiatric crises. The role involves monitoring consumers in EMPATH and assisting teammates in providing safe, therapeutic interventions.

Typical Working Conditions/Environment

Working conditions consist of a 16-lounge bed residential unit with hours of operation 24/7. The PT must ensure coverage is provided 24/7 despite any weather conditions or holidays.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Daily Staff Duties: Leads groups and organizes activities; offers 1:1 counseling as requested by clients; responds to all flags, emails, and voicemails within 2 business days; completes Staff Daily Duties assigned by supervisor before the end of each shift.
  • Complete Documentation: Completes group logs, transport logs, and charting correctly and on time.
  • Maintain Safety: Completes safety checks when observing clients; properly completes property inventories and searches belongings; follows EMPATH schedule to provide clients with a structured daily routine.
  • Team Member: Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team by being punctual, maintaining good attendance, staying alert, communicating effectively, and resolving conflicts professionally.

COMPENSATION

The starting salary for this position is approximately $17.21 - $19.35/hr based on relevant experience and education.

Schedule

The schedule requires flexibility, possible overnight shifts, holiday work, and overtime. Regular attendance is essential, and the PT must be punctual and maintain a good attendance record, staying awake and alert on all shifts.

Qualifications - EmPATH Residential Counselor

  • Experience: Experience in working with special populations, crisis settings, and co-occurring disorders is preferred. Computer experience is helpful.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, Bachelor's degree with experience in mental health, special populations, or crisis settings preferred. Coursework and experience in cultural diversity, mental illness etiology, substance abuse, abuse prevention, suicide, and crisis intervention are required.
  • Physical/Social Skills: Possible exposure to biological hazards; close eye work; lifting up to 50 lbs.; frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching; certification in verbal and physical de-escalation techniques; training and certification in Handle with Care.
