Emergency Veterinary Doctor Coordinator

About the role

MedVet is a fast-growing Emergency and Specialty veterinary provider with practices nationwide. We help patients receive advanced medical treatments and innovations such as chemotherapy, radiation, cardiac ablations, glaucoma treatments, physical rehabilitation, and dermatology. We are seeking a collaborative and driven Emergency Veterinary Doctor Coordinator to join our clinical team. This role thrives in a fast-paced emergency environment where no two days or cases are the same.

Responsibilities

  • Directly support specific doctor(s) for a given shift; may support different doctors within a department at different times.
  • Ensure follow-through of departmental workflow for the supported doctor(s).
  • Collaborate on scheduling consults, transfers, and diagnostics.
  • Delegate team responsibilities, such as rounding cases, planning and managing diagnostic scheduling, and information dissemination.
  • Act as the point of contact for referral partner transfers/inquiries if the doctor is unavailable.
  • Provide departmental client communication for cases, including addressing concerns, discussing care plans, and answering questions in the doctor’s absence.
  • Draft medical record documentation for supported doctor(s), including initial patient history, vital statistics, treatment orders, referral letters, and discharge/dismissal letters for doctor review.
  • Monitor emails and voicemails for doctor(s).
  • Assist with and ensure completion of outpatient procedures as required by doctor(s), such as bandage changes, post-operative radiographs, diagnostic samples, and medication administration.
  • May escort outpatient clients to and from exam rooms and prepare/maintain exam rooms.
  • May act as a mentor or trainer for team members.
  • Coordinate and delegate prescription refills to team members.

Requirements

  • Prior veterinary experience required; previous emergency experience desired.
  • Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.).
  • Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
