Emergency Services Technician
About the role
As an Emergency Services Technician, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the emergency department. Your responsibilities include greeting patients and visitors, answering and screening calls, calling codes, paging, and overhead announcements, entering nursing requests, assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, assembling and maintaining patient records, performing clerical tasks, and assisting nurses and physicians with various patient activities.
Responsibilities
- Greets patients and visitors.
- Answers, screens, and routes telephone calls.
- Calls codes, pages, and overhead announcements as requested.
- Enters nursing requests subject to the approval of a licensed nurse.
- Asks for clarification when necessary.
- Aids in processing patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Assists with assembling and maintaining patient records and charts.
- Performs needed clerical tasks, including copying, filing, and ordering/stocking supplies.
- Aids RNs and physicians with other patient activities as needed.
- Monitors multiple monitors and identifies significant arrhythmias and/or signs of patient distress.
- Corrects for artifacts and reports abnormal assessments and telemetry findings or changes in patient conditions to nursing staff.
- Tests equipment for proper working order and reports any issues to the supervisor.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
Required experience: One (1) year of experience preferred. Required education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Preferred certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) is required upon hire.
Qualifications
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
