Emergency Room Technician II

This position performs a variety of routine and advanced patient care tasks under the direction of nursing staff to assist medical and nursing personnel in the examination, treatment, and care of patients. It also includes a variety of clerical and technical tasks as assigned.

Work Environment

• Two-campus (Smithfield and Clayton) Emergency Departments with a combined total of 64 beds, offering diverse patient populations and acuity levels
• 4:1 nurse-to-patient ratios, supporting safe, high-quality patient care
• Strong team-based environment with a culture of collaboration and mutual support
• Chest Pain Accredited facility, delivering evidence-based cardiac care, along with being an interventional STEMI center
• Primary Stroke Center, providing rapid, coordinated stroke response and treatment

Responsibilities

• Participate in patient care interventions and personal care procedures for patients, under the direction of nursing staff, such as hygiene, bowel and bladder elimination, and ambulation
• Assist with approved dressing and wound care appropriate for CNA II level training
• Provide assistance with nutritional activities
• Perform a variety of EKG technician tasks as required, including routine, repeat, or STAT EKGs
• Perform adult, isolated venipuncture for collection of routine blood specimens and blood cultures
• Maintain ongoing, high-level surveillance of patients’ cardiac rhythms and notify nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes and/or inadequate signal reception according to clinician/provider orders in a timely manner
• Collect, deliver, and conduct routine tests on patient specimens
• Prepare patients, equipment, and supplies for specific procedures and provide manual assistance as required
• Escort and transport patients that do not require any hemodynamic monitoring
• Answer signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine patients’ needs and respond promptly
• Maintain a clean work area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment as required
• Maintain clean tags on all clean equipment in the clean utility room
• Function as a patient sitter for risk-identified patients

Requirements

• Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) certification
• Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
• Licensed as a Nursing Assistant II by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
• Prefer experience performing EKGs

Pay

Salary range: $19.98 - $28.54 per hour (Hiring range determined by experience and internal equity)

Schedule

• Full Time, 36 hours per week
• Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
• Onsite, located in Smithfield, NC
