Emergency Room Technician - Emergency Department

About the role

The UNC REX Emergency Department is a fast-paced, high-acuity care environment designed to meet the diverse and complex needs of the community. It includes a 54-bed facility with specialized areas for behavioral health patients, two major resuscitation rooms, and a fully functional radiology suite.

Responsibilities

• Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration rates every 2 hours or as directed.
• Records intake and outputs as directed.
• Performs urinary catherization or in and out Foley procedure and documents accordingly.
• Sets up area for sterile procedure and documents accordingly.
• Performs minor orthopedic splinting under the direction of the physician assistant.
• Documents any skin breakdowns noted and notifies RN.
• Removes any IV catheter and documents accordingly.
• Transcribes, documents, and transmits physician orders and any other pertinent information.
• Able to work in all three areas of department - triage, minor treatment, and acute.
• Follows guidelines per departmental policy in each of these areas.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED).
• Listing as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Prefer three to six months relevant experience and/or training.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Licensure/Certification: Listing as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Professional Experience: Prefer three to six months relevant experience and/or training.
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports, speak effectively, add and subtract two-digit numbers, and perform mathematical operations.
