About the role
Supports safe, cost-efficient patient care in the Emergency Department, performing delegated functions from the RN or Physician.
Responsibilities
- Provides patient care according to established nursing standards, policies and procedures.
- Assists with patient assessment and planning.
- Recognizes and communicates abnormal findings and/or changes in patient status to RN.
- Follows through with specific tasks as directed by the RN, Charge or department leadership.
- Performs IV starts on specific patient populations as approved and directed.
- Assists in promoting patient comfort, i.e. positioning, providing restful environment, measures to reduce pain.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Certification of completion of technician education in a specific area and specialty e.g. EMT-Basic, EMT-Paramedic, CNA, LNA or PCT (patient care technician).
- Completion of Basic EKG class and demonstration of competency in EKG rhythm identification within six (6) months or previous EKG rhythm identification experience and demonstration of competency within ninety (90) days of hire.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
- Successful completion of the following within ninety (90) days - YRMC IV Course, IV insertion competency checklist for adults, Six (6) successful adult IV insertions performed under the supervision of an RN.
Preferred
- One (1) year of pre-hospital or Emergency Department experience.
- Certified Nursing Assistant License: AZ (CNA:AZ).
- Emergency Medical Technician: AZ (EMT:AZ).
