Emergency Room Technician

Job Summary

To support safe, cost-efficient patient care in the Emergency Department, you will perform delegated functions from the RN or Physician, conduct selected diagnostics and procedures, assist with patient transport and lifting, and provide general clerical and cleaning support.

Responsibilities

• Supports patient care according to established nursing standards, policies and procedures
• Assists with patient assessment and planning
• Recognizes and communicates abnormal findings and/or changes in patient status to RN
• Fulfills specific tasks as directed by the RN, Charge or department leadership
• Performs IV starts on specific patient populations as approved and directed
• Assists in promoting patient comfort, including positioning and providing a restful environment
• Maintains a safe and efficient environment

Required Job Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of technician education in a specific area and specialty (e.g., EMT-Basic, EMT-Paramedic, CNA, LNA, or PCT)
• Completion of Basic EKG class and demonstration of competency in EKG rhythm identification within six (6) months or previous EKG rhythm identification experience and demonstration of competency within ninety (90) days of hire
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
• Completion of the following within ninety (90) days:
• YRMC IV Course
• IV insertion competency checklist for adults
• Six (6) successful adult IV insertions performed under the supervision of an RN

Preferred Qualifications

• One (1) year of pre-hospital or Emergency Department experience
• Certified Nursing Assistant License: AZ (CNA:AZ)
• Emergency Medical Technician: AZ (EMT:AZ)
