Emergency Response Technician
About the role
The Emergency Response Technician (ERT) position serves the State Highway Administration’s (SHA) Office of Transportation Mobility and Operations (CHART). This role performs incident management and traffic congestion management duties, including guiding ETP operators, managing traffic at incident scenes, assisting disabled motorists, and reporting real-time traffic information to the Statewide Operations Center (SOC) and Traffic Operations Centers (TOC).
Responsibilities
- Perform incident management and traffic congestion management duties.
- Guide Emergency Traffic Patrol (ETP) operators.
- Manage traffic at incident scenes.
- Assist disabled motorists.
- Report real-time traffic information to the SOC and TOC.
- Operate special towing equipment and respond to incidents.
- Maintain regular patrol routes and respond to routine incidents.
- Maintain regular communication with SOC and TOC personnel.
Requirements
- One (1) year of experience performing emergency highway operations work, to include relocating disabled vehicles or directing the relocation of disabled vehicles, making minor repairs to disabled vehicles, or coordinating with emergency response departments to include fire, law enforcement, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and tow truck operators at crash scenes.
- Possession of a driver's license valid in the state of Maryland.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver's license and certification as a light-duty tow truck operator.
