Emergency Medicine Clinical Instructor

Job Summary

The UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine Department of Medical Sciences invites applications for a Clinical Instructor position in Emergency Medicine within UW Veterinary Care. This renewable, full-time (100% FTE) academic veterinary practice appointment is designed for veterinarians with a strong interest in emergency medicine and clinical teaching in a tertiary-care academic environment.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Provide direct emergency case receiving, patient care, medical decision-making, and client communication for small animal emergency patients.
• Deliver clinical instruction, supervision, and mentorship to veterinary students and rotating interns during emergency medicine patient care activities.
• Participate in an average of approximately 40 hours per week of emergency case receiving and/or teaching activities.
• Support a collaborative learning environment through bedside teaching, case discussions, and clinical oversight of learners.
• Participate in additional educational activities, as appropriate, including emergency medicine procedures laboratories, topic rounds, and other student-centered teaching opportunities.
• Work collaboratively with faculty, house officers, veterinary technicians, and staff to support excellence in patient care and education.

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent degree).
• Completion of a small animal rotating internship, emergency medicine internship, or equivalent emergency medicine experience in clinical practice.
• Eligibility for veterinary licensure in the State of Wisconsin.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative clinical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in emergency medicine clinical practice.
• Interest or experience in clinical teaching, mentorship, or supervision of veterinary students and/or interns.
• Interest in contributing to emergency medicine educational activities such as procedures laboratories, rounds, and case-based instruction.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
