About the role

Virginia Western Community College is seeking part-time Emergency Medical Services (EMS) clinical instructors in the School of Health Professions. These positions are available based on clinical need and applicant availability.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain currency in the EMS system within the Roanoke area.
  • Assist and oversee the work of EMS students.
  • Supervise, instruct, and evaluate students.
  • Work in the lab or clinical setting.
  • May assist the agency or state government in emergencies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with two (2) years of clinical experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
  • A strong working knowledge of the EMS system within the Roanoke area.
  • Associate’s degree in the teaching field preferred.
  • Current or recent classroom and/or online teaching experience specifically in an EMS program.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate technology into instructional and faculty responsibilities.
  • Current NREMT-Paramedic Certification preferred.

Qualifications

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.

Skills

  • Proficiency in supervision, instruction, and evaluation.
  • Experience using the Canvas (LMS) Learning Management System for online learning development/teaching.
  • Knowledge of current Microsoft Office programs.
