Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, our Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedics possess extensive knowledge, skills, training, and experience in managing patients in the out-of-hospital setting. They are experts in stabilizing and transporting patients to and between medical facilities by ground or air.

Duties

  • Perform clinical duties including patient assessment, peripheral and central IV insertion, specimen collection, use of pneumatic shock garments, administration of medications, endotracheal intubations, oxygen and medical gas administration, EKG monitoring, 12 lead acquisition, defibrillation, cardioversion, spinal immobilization, chest decompression, cricothyroidotomy, trans-tracheal insufflation, monitoring of invasive vital signs, and other medical procedures.
  • Certified in BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump).
  • Operate the ambulance, coordinate transportation, provide direct patient care aboard Suffolk County Police Medevac Helicopter, precept students, orient new students, provide administrative support to the Emergency Services Coordinator, and supervise Emergency Medical Technicians.

Qualifications

  • New York State Health Department certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic and appropriate New York State driver’s license.
  • Preferred: Additional certifications such as BLS, BCLS, BTLS, PHTLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, NALS, and IABP.

Failure to comply with any of these requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

Anticipated Pay Range: The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $85,003/year. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired. Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as: Location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full-time positions ($4,000); Night shift differential ($3,700); Evening shift differential ($0); Inconvenience pay/supplemental shift differential ($575); Geographic Pay ($7,800).
