Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Full-time Evening Shift
Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, Emergency Medical Technicians provide life support services and transport patients in need of emergency hospital care under the supervision of an attending physician. This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
Duties
- Assists Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic) and other medical care providers in the provision of advanced level medical care.
- Captures transport; operates the ambulance; maintains transportation equipment and assures the availability of adequate supplies.
- Coordinates transport; operates the ambulance; maintains transportation equipment and assures the availability of adequate supplies.
- Performs administrative support to the Emergency Services Coordinator as needed.
- Performs other duties as related to the Emergency Medical Service transportation service as assigned.
Qualifications
- New York State Health Department certification as an Emergency Medical Technician and the appropriate New York State driver’s license for the type of vehicle to be operated.
- One or more of the following certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), National Registry.

Shifts and Essential Functions
This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. This function/position may be designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen.
- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Anticipated Pay Range
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $40,720 / year. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.
