Responsibilities
- Responding to emergencies, administering medications, and coordinating with other staff to ensure inmate health and safety.
- Aid in patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems, medication history.
- Taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, respiration, and weight, drawing blood.
- Documenting medical history including medications, treatment and medical conditions.
- Maintaining medical equipment and supplies within the facility.
- Completing intake screenings.
- Administering and reading PPD tests.
- Ensuring the safety and security of inmates and staff during medical procedures and transport.
- Observing and reporting changes in patients' physical or mental health to nurses.
Qualifications
- Completion of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
- Ability to obtain the necessary state licenses for EMT.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Active BLS Certification (American Heart Association required).
- Criminal background check must be passed.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
- Display integrity, professionalism, and adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Physical Capabilities
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods.
- Lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds).
- Bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances.
- Perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
