Responsibilities
- Establishes a professional rapport with patients and staff.
- Collaborates with other pre-hospital team members to assure that appropriate level of treatment is performed.
- Transfer patients to the emergency department of a hospital or other healthcare facility.
- Respond to 911 calls for emergency medical assistance.
- Report their observations and treatment to physicians, nurses, or other healthcare facility staff.
- Document medical care given to patients.
- Acts as a role model in area of expertise and professional practice by being self-directed, self-motivated, maintaining expertise and promoting the emergency medical services system.
- Facilitates and models development of critical thinking, problem solving and communications skills among the students.
- Maintains current knowledge of relevant issues, trends, and practices in the area of emergency medical services.
- Promotes professional self-development
- Assess a patient's condition and determine a course of treatment.
- Provide first-aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured patients.
- Supports leadership in ensuring that excellent customer service standards are met.
- Reinforces behaviors consistent with customer service standards.
- Transport patients safely in an ambulance.
- Operate an emergency vehicle in a safe manner consistent with YNHHS policies.
- Adhere to all applicable state EMS protocols, sponsor hospital guidelines, and YNHHS policies and procedures.
- Construct a personal development plan based on self-evaluation and peer review.
- Inventory, replace, and clean supplies and equipment after use.
- Assists in the care and maintenance of equipment.
Qualifications
- EMS certification/licensure at the EMT level, other health care licensure /certification, or other subject matter expertise in the area of healthcare, public safety, EMS, or education is preferred.
- Pre-hospital experience, other healthcare experience, or other needed area of expertise experience strongly encouraged.
- Must maintain certification as a CT and RI EMT.
- State of CT EMT Certification required, EMS certification/licensure at or above the EMT level in RI is preferred at hire or must be obtained in the first 6 month of employment, other health care licensure/certification desirable.
- Current AHA BCLS is required.
