About the role
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) provide care to injured or sick patients in both emergency and non-emergency situations in a pre-hospital setting. This role requires quick action and efficiency, as patients may be in critical condition.
Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls to transport patients to medical facilities
- Perform Basic Life Support Care
- Work evenings and weekends due to the nature of the role
Requirements
- At least 19 years of age at the time of hire
- Able to legally work in the United States
- Possess a High School diploma or GED certificate
- Valid State Driver’s License (with preferred DMV record)
- No felony convictions that prohibit licensure by Illinois Department of Public Health
- No factors excluding an EMS provider from providing care on Office Inspector General Exclusions Database
- Successfully complete FEMA Independent Study courses within six months of hire
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities in effective decision-making, interpersonal communications, and conflict resolution
- Hold National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification (preferred but not required)
- Obtain and maintain American Heart Association CPR Certification
- Maintain Continuing Education related to Emergency Medical Technician certifications
- Remain in good standing with the Southwestern Illinois EMS System
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED certificate

- Pass drug screen, vision and hearing exam, and essential physical demand testing
- Complete FEMA Independent Study courses
- Hold National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification (preferred)

- Maintain Continuing Education related to Emergency Medical Technician certifications
- Remain in good standing with the Southwestern Illinois EMS System
