Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT/EMT, Paramedic)

Responsibilities

  • Responding to emergencies, administering medications, and coordinating with other staff to ensure inmate health and safety.
  • Assist with performing patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems, medication history.
  • Taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, respiration, and weight, drawing blood.
  • Documenting medical history including medications, treatment and medical conditions.
  • Aiding in the maintenance of medical equipment and supplies within the facility.
  • Completing intake screening.
  • Administering and reading PPD tests.
  • Ensuring the safety and security of inmates and staff during medical procedures and transport.
  • Observing and reporting changes in patients' physical or mental health to nurses.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or a higher-level Paramedic program.
  • Ability to obtain the necessary state licenses for EMT or Paramedic.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Ability to obtain BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred).
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.

Pay

Pay rates range from $23.00 to $24.00 per hour based on shift, site needs, licensure/certification, and experience.
